Iron fences are typically added to homes for an elegant appearance. However, you’ll find most fences need the proper maintenance to last long, which may be challenging to keep up with during the winter. Therefore, we decided to list three ways to effectively remove snow and ice from your iron fences during the winter season. Continue reading!
Using Deicing Alternatives
Removing snow and ice that’s on your driveway is ideal for walking and cars. Salt and deicers can cause rusting and corrosion to an iron fence. You see, you’ll want to use deicing alternatives that won’t cause any damage to the iron material. Typically sand tends to be one of the best options because it will melt the ice when exposed to the sun, and any excess sand will become easier to brush off from any part of the fence.
Additionally, you can even use coffee grinds on your home property. This is because similar to sand. The grinds provide a sandy grip to help make it easier to walk and allow the ice to melt quickly.
So when you choose to use sand or coffee grinds, you should spread them across the top of ice and snow. Therefore, when the sun goes down after a storm, the little pieces of ice will become heated and melt.
Use Ground Heaters
When you dig out and shovel around your iron fence, you don’t want the sharp edges from the shovel to scratch or cut the material. Additionally, the scratches can take away from the appearance of the fence and ultimately decrease the value. So, when spring approaches, you’ll have to spend more time fixing and restoring the scratches so that the material doesn’t become exposed.
Try considering a hands-free way to clear the snow that’s near your fence with a ground heater blanket. Once the snowstorms ended you can place the heated ground blanket on the areas around your fence. Afterward, you can get rid of the large portions near your fence; then, you can slide the blanket beneath your fence to help thaw out the ground snd prevent the ice from building up.
Netting Mesh For Fences
An additional way to protect your fencing during the winter season is with fence cover. It could be beneficial to put it over your fence. You see, the netting nesh will help keep out any snow and ice from the iron using a protective layer. Doing so will make it easier to brush off any debris from your fence.
