The Associated Builders and Contractors awarded the specialty iron work award to Hercules Fence and Hercules Custom Iron.
The Metro Washington and Virginia Chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC’s) recently awarded their 34th annual Excellence in Construction Awards. These awards are given in recognition of the outstanding projects built in the Washington area. Awards were given for projects like painting, masonry, restaurant interiors, historical renovations, landscaping, and even retail spaces. Along with several other awards, one award was given for specialty iron work in the District. This award was given to Hercules Fence and Hercules Custom Iron for outstanding iron work on the Cathedral Commons project.
About the Project
Cathedral Commons is located in Washington, DC’s historic District and gives residents a unique opportunity to live, shop, and enjoy the amenities in their own backyard. This project was commissioned by The Bozzuto Group and had many different amenities such as wine bars, convenience stores, coffee shops, spas, and is close to schools and universities.
The Award
The judges for this year’s ABC awards included industry professionals including architects, owners, government officials, and other industry leaders from the Washington Metro-area. The entries of the Specialty Iron Work award were rated on the uniqueness of the project, difficulty of construction, job site accessibility, workmanship, and the time allowed for completion. They were also judged on attractiveness, complexity, cost, safety, and unique challenges that were overcome during the projects. Hercules Fence and Hercules Custom Iron were awarded this honor for their participation in the Cathedral Commons project where they manufactured the handrails and balcony railings for the project.
