An iron fence is an easy way to add a touch of elegance to your garden area. Iron fences are known for their old-fashioned appeal that looks great in just about any outdoor setting, especially for something delicate like a garden area. Iron fences have high visibility, and they are so visually appealing. Unfortunately, no garden is totally immune to pests like rabbits, raccoons, and other small animals. Most people opt for mesh paneled or wooden fences to surround their garden at the cost of not being so aesthetically pleasing. But, did you know there is an easy and compromise you can make to have a beautiful, ornamental iron fence to your garden and keep out a lot of pests? Try using a puppy picket extension. Don’t know what that is? Read on to learn more.
What is a Puppy Picket?
A puppy picket was originally developed for keeping small dogs inside of an iron fence. For many years, iron fences have been a popular choice for dog pens, parks, and kennels. An iron fence is sturdy and weatherproof and rarely requires maintenance. However, many dogs were using the often wide bars in between the pickets and wriggling their way through to make an escape into who knows where. So, a solution had to be developed for this problem. Iron fence engineers eventually came up with the puppy picket. The puppy picket is essentially an optional add-on to any iron fence. It sits around one to two feet tall and is installed at the bottom of the fence. Essentially the add-on contains smaller, less space-out bars that make sneaky dog’s great escape plan impossible while not detracting too much from the overall look of the iron fence.
How Does it Prevent Pests?
Some smart homeowners and gardeners, even those without dogs, began to notice the helpfulness of a puppy picket add on to their iron fence. They found that a puppy picket can not only keep animals inside of the area, but they are also equally helpful in keeping them outside of a designated area. Thus, many gardeners began to install puppy pickets to the bottoms of their garden iron fence. They began to notice that fewer rabbits and other medium-sized pests would ravage their gardens over time due to having trouble getting into the garden in the first place. So an iron fence shouldn’t be immediately eliminated as an option for your garden because it can’t keep out pests. A puppy picket can help!
