How Should a Fence Estimator Evaluate Your Property?

So you’re having a fence estimator come out to your property for a fence installation. How can you tell that they’re doing what they’re supposed to? Read on to learn how a fence estimator should evaluate your property, and how to know whether they’re doing a good job.

How Should a Fence Estimator Evaluate Your Property?

Obstructions

Things such as trees, large rocks, bushes, etc., can affect the construction of the fence. A good estimator will take note of all potential obstacles in your yard.

Grading

If you have a flat yard, then grading isn’t an issue. If your yard is hilly or has a large slope, than grading is a concern, and something the estimator should take note of. A slope means that the fence will have to be constructed to fit the contour of the yard. Stepped fences are sometimes used to accommodate slopes, but they may leave small spaces at the bottom where pets can get out, for example. The best fence for a sloped yard is a contoured fence.

Existing Fences and Structures

A good evaluator will take into consideration any existing structures and fences on or bordering your property. Of course, this includes your house, but it could also include your neighbor’s fence or a tool shed.

Advising you as to your fence options

Once the estimator has taken these factors into consideration, they will advise you as to what kind of fence would work best for your property. Taking into consideration your fencing wants and needs, the estimator should help you arrive at the ideal fence for you.
