Concrete
Are you installing grounded rail into your concrete steps or patio? Installing railing onto a concrete surface requires the help of a steady hand and a masonry drill bit. By using a masonry drill bit, you can prevent cracking and simplify the entire installation process. A masonry drill bit helps to make the installation process quick and effective!
Wood
Wood is often prone to rot and pest damage, which can create a hazard for railings if not handled properly. Perform regular maintenance on your wood deck or stairs, and have them inspected before you install a grounded rail. Once your wood surface is approved, use wood glue and wood screws to secure your rail. Drill pilot holes before you install the screws to ensure that the wood does not split during the installation process.
Brick
Brick patios are very common, but installing a rail onto brick can be tricky. It’s important to determine the quality of the bricks first. For example, were you bricks formed with high amounts of sand or lime? If so, they may be more prone to cracking. Use a hammer drill instead of a standard drill to prevent blowing out the brick.
Stone
Stone requires a rotary hammer drill to bore a hole through it without cracking or breaking it. There are two standard methods of installing rails onto a stone patio or deck. Fascia installation requires drilling bolt holes and fastening the bolts from the railing to the stone. Ensure that the space around the bolt is filled with a quick setting cement. Surface installation requires boring a hold to anchor the posts. Once the hold is bored, and the bolt is inserted, fill the space around the bolt with epoxy.
