When it comes to merging the ease and aesthetic for a glamorous, custom-built fence there are few things as stunning as glass railings. Luckily, glass railings are almost as easy to maintain as they are beautiful! If you’re thinking of installing a glass fence, or if you need tips on cleaning the one you have, Hercules Custom Iron has you covered. Follow our tips and you’ll have a sparkling crystal clear fence in no time.

Remove Dirt and Debris

The first step to a spotless glass railing is to remove dust and larger dirt clumps. Use old newspaper, rags, or paper towels and wipe down both sides of your glass railing. When you do this, it should remove most of the visible dirt and won’t take long at all.

Liquid Cleaning

The next step is to use a liquid cleaner to remove any remaining grime. The best solution is to mix a 1-to-1 ratio of white vinegar and water into a spray bottle. Doing this will quickly and efficiently clean your glass railings without leaving behind any streaks. If you do not have vinegar available, no worries you can also use any liquid soap such as glass and window cleaner, or you can mix a few drops of liquid dish soap into warm water. With these options, you will need to wipe down the glass a second time when dry to remove streaks. We recommend sticking to lint-free cloths or old newspaper to wipe clean your glass railings as paper towels are likely to leave lint and streaks.

Clean Your Fasteners

Generally, glass fences and railings use aluminum parts as well, these sections can be cleaned with the same materials you use for the glass. Depending on the amount of cleaning you need to do you may want to start with the aluminum, and wait to clean the glass some other time. If your aluminum fence parts have a powdery residue, you will need to scrub them to remove the powder (a typical result of oxidation) and add a layer of wax based polish. We recommend doing this first if it is needed so that you do not need to worry about getting wax on your clean glass.
